Bengaluru – Bosch Limited inaugurated the rejuvenated Shyanumangala Lake today, situated adjacent to its manufacturing facility in Bidadi. Over the past few years, the Shyanumangala Tank had been losing its charm due to encroachments and mismanagement. The rise in pollution and regular dumping of the village’s garbage threatened the survival of the tank. Adding to this, blocking of catchment area had led to the accumulation of silt and reduction in the tank’s storage capacity.

Bidadi was once famous for grape cultivation and poultry farming. Recognizing the tank’s significance for the town and its nearby communities, Bosch initiated immediate restoration activities in late 2017. These included key activities like construction of cattle trough outside the tank area, desilting, bund strengthening, shrub clearance, treatment along catchment area, and formation of walking paths, construction of drains, barbed wire fencing, chain link fencing and plantation among others.

The idea behind initiating the project was a part of Bosch’s commitment towards preserving biodiversity and working towards the sustainability of the communities it operates in and around. Bosch values that include responsibility towards the society and environmental sustainability, propelled this initiative further. The company held discussions with the Panchayat development officers regarding the activities and also discussed it with the community members before proceeding.

Speaking at the occasion of the tank inauguration, Mr. Soumitra Bhattacharya, Managing Director, Bosch Limited and President, Bosch Group India said, “At Bosch, we recognize the importance of preserving natural resources and promoting environmental sustainability. By identifying the growing need to cater to the demands of the localities near the tank, we started rejuvenation efforts in 2017. The benefits witnessed by the tank rejuvenation stand testimonial to our overall sustainability practices. We will continue to further our efforts and will contribute to more restoration practices.”

Mr. A. Manjunath, Member of Legislative Assembly, Magadi also present at the inauguration said, "I feel honored to be a part of this initiative by Bosch Limited. We are in constant need of a clean and sustainable environment and the rejuvenation of Shyanumangala lake by Bosch Bidadi Management is a positive step towards it. I would request the general public to cooperate us in maintaining the lake waters and keeping the surrounding clean and litter free by responsibly using the lake."

The rejuvenated lake will not only benefit the local population for domestic utilities but also lead to recharging of ground water table and restoring the micro environment in the surrounding areas.
